Have You Used My IB? (Part 2 – Programme Resource Center)

Last week, I have shared one section from My IB which allows IBers to connect, communicate, contribute, collaborate, clarify, initiate, etc in the Programme Communities section.

Next, we’re going to take a look at another section which allows IBers from all programmes to access IB documents and resources.   We are going to see the PYP section more closely.

First Look

The screenshot below shows how the first page looks like after click the Programme Resource Center (PRC) icon.  As you can see, as users, we’ll be able to see programme related documents.  It’s just like a library.

The PRC provides us with digital resources which support our understanding of the programmes.  When you join a workshop, your workshop leader will be encouraging you to use this platform.  Whenever you are confused and need clarification, the PRC is the place where you go to find what’s written in the official documents.

On the top of the page, you will see a search bar which you can use to search for any documents you need.  Let’s say you have no time to browse the features and you need to find ‘The Learner’ document.  After hitting the search button, you will find the result as it’s shown below.  You click on the programme and choose the language of the document.

Still on the first page after clicking the PRC icon, if you scroll down, you will see the latest programme news Screenshot 2020-01-18 at 07.26.51

Scroll down again to find general information which is useful for those who are new to the programmes.

Let’s take a look at the PYP section closely.   As it’s mentioned before, the PRC is basically your ‘go-to’ place when you need to find IB official documents and resources.

PYP: From Principles into Practice

Click on ‘view all PYP resources’ to see more documents as you can see on the screenshot below.

In the past, for those who have been in the PYP for a while, we all must have been familiar with ‘Making the PYP Happen’ document which many of us see it as the PYP bible.

This document is no longer be used and referred to.  Your PYP coordinators will suggest you explore the PRC as a platform that provides you with the most recent IB official documents.

As a replacement of the Making the PYP Happen document, the IB published a new document called ‘PYP: From Principles into Practice’ which is divided into 3 pillars of the IB PYP – The Learner, Learning and Teaching and The Learning Community.  These documents are digital resources.  With this in mind,  although, they are available to be download, it’s not necessary for us to download and print (and keep it as a bible) as the IB will constantly update the resources.  Of course, we always want the most recent version.

Each section contains the elements which (if you remember) you may relate to and make a connection to the ‘former curriculum’ model – written, assessed and taught curriculum.

All documents are available in more than 1 language.  You may choose the language that you want.

Teacher Support Material (TSM)

I enjoy reading the articles that are in this section. The teacher support material basically provides us with practical examples of how the ‘theory’ in the Principles into Practice documents in action.  It’s great to see how schools and PYP educators share their stories, journeys in implementing the programme.

The TSM is organized under 3 pillars. The IB commits to update and add the materials which are beneficial for all of us.  Have you used the TSM?  Not yet?  Take a look.  You may find inspiring stories, ideas to be implemented in your school/class.

In each material, you will find questions that help us to think and extend our understanding of each topic.  This will be a great resource to be used as a school discussion during a collaborative meeting.
